What is that? Hard shelled gourds are grown like squash and look similar when green and heavy. Through the winter and spring they slowly dry, harden and their skin rots to (hopefully) reveal beautiful mottling patterns on the hard, wood-like surface. Southern grown gourds are left to sun dry and are usually bleached quite bare.

Each gourd is individual and some too beautiful to cut. I use multimedia to try to enhance their own natural beauty with colour and cut to highlight their lines and curves.
